Sum insured and settling claims
You select the sum insured, which is the total amount of cover you require. This must represent the market value of your collection.

When we settle a claim we will repair, replace or pay the market value.
Unless another limit is shown below, the most we will pay will be the sum insured.

The most we will pay for any one item not specified in the schedule is £1,000.
New posessions
The sum insured on unspecified items is increased by 10% or £2,000, whichever is the less, to cover items you acquire during the period of insurance.
You must tell us about the new possessions within 60 days of acquisition and pay any extra premium if required by us.
Excess You will have to pay the first £25 of each claim.
Cover
Accidental loss or damage to the collection whilst

1. In your home and elsewhere within the UK whilst
  • on display at exhibitions or fairs and in transit to or from such locations
  • temporarily removed for cleaning or renovation
  • in any other circumstances whilst in your personal custody
2. In transit by post
Cover under 1 above is extended to include items in the collection whilst elsewhere in the world for up to 90 days in any one period of insurance.
Theft from an unattended vehicle unless it is fully locked.

Theft from an unattended hotel room unless involving forcible entry to or exit from the room.

Theft of property left overnight or unattended at exhibitions or fairs unless involving forcible entry to the premises or locked room or there is a 24 hour static security guard or as alternatively agreed by us in writing.

£250 any one claim increasing to £1,000 any one claim if sent by Royal Mail Special Delivery.

£5,000 any one claim.

Security Requirements
We may need to apply security requirements to the policy due to the location of your property or the sums insured. If this is the case, we will let you know before you take out the policy and the security requirements will be detailed on the schedule.
If we apply a security condition and you do not comply with it, in the event of a loss the claim will not be paid if the non compliance is material to the loss.

Security Requirements

The following excesses apply to your policy as a whole regardless of the specific cover you have selected. For full details of these please read your Policy Wording/Schedule.

Special Endorsements

The below endorsements may become operative depending on the amount of sum insured you require.

  1. The Burglar Alarm endorsement - Operative when the total sum insured is £75,000 or greater - requires you to ensure that;
    (a) the burglar alarm at your home is put into operation when the home is left unattended and when you go to bed at night, and
    (b) the burglar alarm is regularly inspected and maintained by the alarm company who installed it (or another company agreed in writing by us).
  2. The Minimum Security endorsement - Operative when the total sum insured is £30,001 or greater - requires you to ensure that;
    (a) All external doors and internal doors leading to integral garages, are fitted with a key operated deadlock.
    (b) All garage doors are fitted with a key-operated lock (other than a rim latch) or a good quality padlock.
    (c) All external basement, ground floor and garage windows, and any windows, skylights and fanlights accessible from roofs, fire escapes, downspouts, walls or other features of any building are fitted with key-operated window locks or screwed or bolted shut. Note: This does not apply to openings of less than 23 cm by 15 cm (9 inches by 6 inches).
    (d) The glass in Louvre windows is glued into its mounting by strong adhesive, for example, superglue.
    (e) All locks, bolts and other security devices are used whenever your home is left unattended and when you go to bed at night (windows in rooms you are sleeping in do not need to be locked).
  3. The Keys endorsement - Operative when the Burglar Alarm or Minimum Security endorsements are operative - requires you to ensure that;
    The keys to the alarm or safe are removed from your home when it is left unattended.
  4. The Stillage Warranty endorsement - Operative if your collection conists partly or entirely paper based items - requires you to ensure that;
    All paper-based items in the collection must be kept at least 6 inches above floor level or in watertight containers.
  5. The Existing Security endorsement - Operative if your home does not meet the minimum security requirements - requires you to ensure that;
    All locks, bolts and other security devices are used when your home is left unattended and when you go to bed at night (windows in rooms you are sleeping in do not need to be locked).
  6. The Safe Condition endorsement - Operative if your collection consists of or includes jewellery - requires you to ensure that;
    All jewellery in your home is kept in a locked safe, approved by us, when it is not being worn by you.
